11+ Halifax Grammar Schools Entrance Test
The two grammar schools in Halifax, Calderdale operate a joint registration and admissions process at 11 plus under the name of the Halifax Grammar Schools Entrance Test. There are 180 places for entry into Year 7 in each of the schools. The test is provided by Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE). The changes to the admissions test are intended to widen opportunities for academically able disadvantaged children to gain a place at either school. The main change is to align the test to the Key Stage 2 curriculum, removing the Non-verbal Reasoning (NVR) element and introducing a creative writing element. The English and Maths papers will be age-standardised.
